Tropical destinations on a budget

Between work, bills, kids and other responsibilities, it's hard to get away - especially if you're on a tight budget. Here are five drool-worthy tropical vacation destinations on a budget.
Dominican Republic is a two-hour flight from Miami, making this vacation ideal for those living on the East coast. Puerto Plata is the place you'll want to go - the sand is sparkling white, the water is crystal-clear and the waterfalls and lagoons stunning. For a great deal, check out the all-inclusive Gran Ventana Beach Resort. There's golf, fine dining, a kids club, pools, scuba diving and all-you-can-eat meals and drinks.
San Diego, CA For the West-coasters on a tight budget, head to San Diego. Average temperatures year-round are mid-60s to high-70s, perfect for lying on the beach, fishing on the pier, hiking, scenic drives etc. Since San Diego is not just a vacation destination, it’s easy to find affordable accommodation.
Puerto Rico seems like an exotic getaway, but if you time it right, it can be affordable. Visiting between May and November will land you the best deals on hotels and airfare, since that's considered the off-season. Find hotels for less than $100 per night and stick to small local restaurants for meals.
Jamaica To top travelers, Jamaica is the Dominican Republic's prime competition - since both destinations offer tropical getaways on a budget. If you're traveling with your significant other, stay at the romantic island of Negril. For families, Montego Bay area is recommended. Miles of beach, amazing food and low cost of hotels are what make Jamaica an amazing vacation for those on a budget.
Hawaii US residents don’t need to factor in a passport, and this alone can make Hawaii cheaper than traveling abroad and watching their budget calculators closely. If you plan on island-hopping, stay in cheaper hotels, but if you plan on staying in one place, you may want to look for an all-inclusive resort. Typically spend around $250 per night and be near the best beaches, shops and restaurants Hawaii has to offer.
