With Tightwad’s love of Downton Abbey, Victorian Christmas
shows and the approach of the holiday season, she wants to hide out in dark,
wood lined sitting rooms, feet up, warm drink in hand and Bronte novel on her
lap. Tartan just seems right for Christmas; warm, colourful, rich and
traditional. The classic fabric is distinguished by a pattern consisting of crisscrossed (warp and weft)
horizontal and vertical bands in multiple colours which forms visible diagonal
lines where different colours cross, giving the appearance of new colours
blended from the original ones. The resulting blocks of colour repeat in a
distinctive pattern of squares and lines known as a sett (Wikipedia.com).
Not all plaids are tartans: only those registered with the Scottish Tartans Authority are the real deal. When it comes to tartan, more is definitely better - so pile
it on!
