Kitchen tips to make you say huh: part #1

New series on Tightwad! Things that will make you stop and say "huh" or "well I never!". File under stuff that your grandma or crazy aunt may know.

1. The flavour of tea can be enhanced by placing a thoroughly dried orange peel in your storage container.
2. Soften hard butter by inverting a warmed bowl over it.
3. Make your own sour cream by added 3 drops of lemon juice to 3/4 cup of whipping cream and leave at room temperature for 30 minutes.
4. One teaspoon of vinegar and one teaspoon of baking soda dissolved together will help in a pinch if you run out of eggs.
5. Cook corn on the cob in boiling water with the husks at the bottom of the pan for the best tasting corn; add one teaspoon of salt, bring to a boil and simmer for twenty minutes.

Same principle for number three applies to buttermilk if you use milk instead of cream...
