Tightwad tips: indoor plants

Think you don't have a green thumb? Check out these tips!

- Save the water from boiling eggs. It is filled with minerals and excellent for plants.
- Once a month, dissolve an aspirin in a cup of tea and feed your plants.
- Use dairy lids for inexpensive plant pot stands.
- If you are away for more than a week, fill your bathtub with about 1/4" of water, set plants on a saucer so the pots don't touch the water, and cover the tub with a dry cleaning bag.
- To keep the leaves on your indoor plants looking green and healthy, rub them with castor or mineral oil.
- Weak water or tea with a couple of drops of ammonia and dish soap makes an excellent plant spray; it cleans the plant and keeps the pests away.
