Frugal can be fun! part 3

Welcome back Jenni, for the last installment of your frugal can be fun! series here at Tightwad. So far we have discussed frugal living without penny pinching and found that this concept transcends into nearly every financial realm, including monthly bills. There are ways to adjust your monthly expenses in such a way that you are in effect living frugally without depriving yourself of basic comforts. Here are some ways to reduce monthly expenses:

  • Share rent
  • If you don’t need a car, consider selling yours
  • Reduce your car insurance rates by driving less or having more anti-theft devices for your vehicle.
  • Try to renegotiate your health insurance rates or any other premiums you pay monthly.
  • Seek out used goods- furniture, clothes, pots and pans, etc.
  • Make the most of what you have; eat all your groceries before they go bad, take care of the things you have so they last longer, etc.
Frugal living is not all-or-nothing. There are varying levels of frugality, and I am sure that you can find one that works for you. Don’t bankrupt your future with instant gratification today, but don’t feel miserable from pinching pennies. Frugality is about finding a balance that enables you to save while living a lifestyle that is comfortable.
