Tightwad reuses dryer sheets - twice - to be green and get the most out of them, but they have other uses besides keeping clothes static-free. If you have "gunk" on the soleplate of your iron, this could be the result of mineral build-up. Set you iron on low and rub it over a dryer sheet until the residue disappears. If you don't leave water in your iron between uses, this problem could be so yesterday.
