Sure, we all know we should limit our intake of salt, but that doesn't mean we have to deprive our use of it in other ways. Break out the salt cellar and get creative with some household tips! The course and gritty texture of salt makes it the perfect secret scouring weapon. Table salt is the cheapest, so it's the obvious choice. Here's the first in a Tightwad top ten series on (non-edible) uses for salt. 10. Clean burned pans by boiling water and salt in them. Salt will clean brass-bottomed pans too.
9. Put an egg in a cup of salted water. If it sinks, it is fresh, if it floats it’s bad.

Salt keep clothes on the line from freezing. Interesting. I was wondering if I could spray salt from the ceiling, removing the dust from my entire house?

Add a pinch of table salt to a freshly opened jug of milk. The milk won't sour as quickly.
